Set high in the hilltops on the island of Mahé, Le Jardin du Roi spice plantation transports a visitor back to a Seychelles of yester year. A time when pirates sailed the seven seas, large colonial houses dotted the island and spice was as precious as gold.

Prepare to feast like a king on Le Jardin du Roi’s freshly grown papaya, mango, breadfruit, star fruit and star apples. A must try is a tropical salad of grated green papaya, breadfruit, star fruit and ripe papaya. The intimate open-air wooden restaurant has retained its rustic charm and beauty, affording you sumptuous views over the garden and the sea below. The plantations colony of giant tortoises (reputed to live up to 200 years) amble around Le Jardin du Roi, keeping a watchful eye on the rows of vanilla, citronella, cinnamon, nutmeg & many other spices as cool island breezes waft the delicious scents to you as you sit at your table.

Visitors are welcome to take a gentle stroll around the gardens of Le Jardin du Roi (open daily from 10am to 5pm) or to stop in at the Spice shop. Here you can take home the taste of the Seychelles – be it juices, jams, compotes or spices (all grown and made at Le Jardin du Roi). Should you wish to explore the hilltop further you are welcome to book a guided mountain hike (to be arranged 24 hours in advance).
