La Digue is an island that looks like it belongs in a daydream. From picture perfect beaches, to swampy jungles this whole island looks like it has stepped out of a fantasy! La Digue is the fourth largest island amongst the Seychelles Islands. Even so, it is small, measuring only 5km by 3km. This means it is easy to explore by foot, bicycle or some of the more colorful local options such as ox cart.
The wildlife on La Digue is largely untouched, and because it is so small, a nature trail safari is the best way to explore it. On foot, you can experience so much more of what this lovely island has to offer. Peek into untamed swamps, amble through forests populated by the rare and lovely Paradise Flycatcher, or rent a bicycle and ride along roads lined by cycads and colorful wild flowers. Wild orchids grow on the island too. This island is without a doubt a photographer’s paradise!
If you are interested in learning more about the rare and beautiful sights on the island, visit the Veuve Information Centre caters for all your needs. The centre offers information on flora, fauna and monitors some of the more special inhabitants of the island. Rare Swiftlets, sea turtles and a two very rare species of terrapin are just some of the amazing wildlife you can see here.
