People come to the Seychelles for many reasons. Some come to enjoy the beaches, warm climate and others come to soak up a bit of the local culture. After long days spent in the sun, there is nothing better than to head out and explore some of the Seychelles nightlife. Wherever in the world you come from, the warm nights are a treat and you feel like exploring whatever island you happen to be on after the sun goes down.
The local culture in Seychelles is a curious one. Because of the long and varied history of the islands and its people, the culture is as colorful as the mix of languages; the traditional dances illustrate this color well.
The locals enjoy a relaxed pace of life and their music is no exception. Drums and a variety of strings instruments give the dancers their backing as the local men and women perform a variety of different dances. The Sega is perhaps the most famous of the Seychelles dances, but guests to the islands can expect to be treated to a wide variety of styles. The Moutia was banned in colonial times for being too sexual, although by today’s standards it looks sensual not sexual. The Contre Dance is of French origin, and the Kanmtole, which looks and sounds almost like a barn dance, illustrate the great variety in the local culture. And of course makes for great entertainment too.
If you are looking to experience some of the local dancing, but you don’t need to venture out of your hotel to enjoy some traditional dancing, many hotels offer dancing as entertainment.
